Why we do it

The tourism industry contributed £5.5 billion to the Greater Manchester economy in 2008* and supports over 77,000 full-time equivalent jobs.

With the cost of national and international travel continuing to fall, the list of destinations vying for tourism business continues to rise. Given that, it is more important than ever that we continue to enhance the great tourism product that Manchester has developed so that tourism can continue to contribute to the city-region economy and support those jobs within the region.

*Visit Manchester uses STEAM (The Scarborough Tourism Economic Activity Monitor) to provide an indication of the economic impact of tourism in Greater Manchester. It is not designed to provide a precise and accurate measurement of tourism, but to provide an indicative base to monitor trends.
