Visit Manchester sets out its conference stall for 2011

13th January 2011

Visit Manchester has secured a coup for the city’s business tourism community by attracting two of the conference industry’s most influential associations to the city.

First to take place is the annual conference of the Association of British Professional Conference Organisers (ABPCO), which takes place between 19 – 21 January.

The following day, 22 January, the UK & Ireland Chapter of the Meeting Professionals International (MPI) association begins their annual board meeting and retreat, which runs until 24 January.

Together, these events will bring over 100 of the UK’s top conference organisers to the city and, if suitably impressed, they have the potential to influence hundreds more of their colleagues.

The ABPCO conference will take place at venues across the city, including: Manchester United, MOSI (the Museum of Science & Industry), Manchester Cathedral, the Renaissance and Jury’s hotels. The MPI meeting will take place at Mint Hotel (formally City Inn) in Piccadilly and The Lowry Hotel.

Steven Small, head of business tourism at Visit Manchester, the tourist board for the Manchester city-region, said: “ABPCO and MPI are two of the biggest names in the conference industry. Bringing them to Manchester and showcasing the city’s business tourism credentials is a massive opportunity to influence some of the sector’s key decision makers.

“Coupled with our attendance at Confex in March, which includes our own destination showcase – Manchester Live – this is a very positive and pro-active way to start the New Year.”
