Marketing Manchester recognised for green working practices

21st September 2010

Marketing Manchester has been recognised as one of the greenest tourism organisations in Greater Manchester.

The agency charged with promoting the city on a national and international stage has become only the third business in the city to be awarded Gold status by the prestigious Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS).

The scheme praised the targets that Marketing Manchester had set for energy use, recycling and the use of public transport by staff. Green cleaning, Fair Trade products, 100% recycled paper and good conservation of energy also contributed to what GTBS described as “a very sustainable office”.

Andrew Stokes, chief executive of Marketing Manchester, said: “The GTBS is an important part of our work to promote sustainable tourism in the city-region. Gold awards represent a serious commitment to the green agenda and shows our members that we really do practice what we preach.”

Andrea Nicholas, manager of the GTBS, said: “Marketing Manchester is leading from the front to get out to businesses in Manchester the message that there are benefits of going green. Their green team with full support of top management have worked hard to implement the measures required to achieve the Gold grading and we have been impressed with their structured approach and diligence throughout the process.”

The GTBS, which was established in 1997, is the largest scheme of its type in the world and aims to ensure the UK remains at the forefront of sustainable tourism. For more information, visit: www.green-tourism.co.uk
