Local Government Association choose Manchester for 2013

9th March 2010

The Local Government Association (LGA) – a lobbying organisation that represents over 400 local authorities from across the UK – has chosen Manchester as the location for its 2013 annual conference and exhibition.

The event will take place at Manchester Central on 2-4 July and is expected to attract around 1,400 delegates.

Paul Simpson, managing director of Visit Manchester, the tourist board for Greater Manchester, said: The LGA conference is a very prestigious event and we’re looking forward to welcoming them in 2013. The success of the recent Labour and Conservative party conferences in Manchester has really increased our profile on the conference map and that helps us to generate even more conference business for the city. I’m sure the LGA will be more than impressed with what Manchester has to offer.”

Lesley Tomlinson, chief executive of Manchester Central, said: “We’re delighted to have secured the LGA conference for Manchester. The investment made in our redevelopment means we’re ideally positioned to provide the flexibility required by such important events and I’m sure that every single delegate will really enjoy what Manchester Central has to offer.”

The Local Government Association was established in 1997 as the voice of local government in the national arena. It is a voluntary membership body and lobbies and campaigns for changes in policy and legislation on behalf of member councils and the communities they serve.

Conferences and events that Visit Manchester has recently secured include:
• British Lymphoedema Society - Annual Conference
• 3rd WordCampUK - annual gathering
• Media, Communication and Cultural Studies Association - Annual Conference
• Sport Business Group - Sport and New Media Conference
