Green Tourism Business Scheme

The Green Tourism Business Scheme is the national sustainable tourism certificate for the UK, and is validated by Visit Britain. Businesses opting to join are assessed by a qualified grading advisor against a rigorous set of criteria, covering a range of areas such as energy and water efficiency, waste management, and more. Those businesses that meet the required standard, receive a Bronze, Silver, or Gold award based on their level of achievement. The current network of members is comprised of a wide range of business types, including accommodation providers, visitor attractions, restaurants and others.

Visit Manchester is committed to leading tourism in Greater Manchester towards a greener future and as an organisation, has taken action in a wide range of environmental issues. Visit Manchester is proud to announce that in September 2010, our hard work and commitment to sustainability was recognised when we were presented with a Gold Award from GTBS.

There are nearly 30 GTBS assessed businesses in Greater Manchester - 5 with Gold Awards, 11 with Silver, 7 with Bronze, and the remaining are awaiting grading. Click here for the full list.
